COMMERCE CITY — Colorado Rapids interim head coach Chris Little has one goal in mind for his eight games in charge of a desperate club in desperate times: Break the downward spiral. On Friday, the Rapids short-term boss addressed media members for the first time since his former boss, Robin Fraser, parted ways with the club Tuesday. Little knows the Rapids are in a demanding stretch with seven games in 22 days, but keeping the team united will come down to two things: Simplicity and togetherness.“Our first meeting with the players the day after was really on, ‘let’s take ownership of this situation’, from a coaching staff from every department (in the club), to the players,” Little said. “… How are we going to correct this problem? What’s the identity we need as a team to allow you to be successful? We have some behaviors that are going to be important to us until the end of the season.”Taking ownership means, according to L...

Bioluminescence is not an unfamiliar sight in California, but when it's spotted, it's often aquatic creatures playing in the lit waters.Earlier this week, however, a photographer and videographer captured some humans getting in on the fun.In Huntington Beach, boogie boarders took to the ocean to catch some glowing waves, which are usually the result of plankton called Lingulodinium polyedra, often shortened to L. poly."It’s been a while since we’ve seen it here but the waves this time around were unbelievably bright," Patrick Coyne, who goes by @patrickc_la on Instagram, shared on the social media platform. "The beach was crowded with people enjoying the show and we all had a blast."Coyne, who has a talent for capturing stunning bioluminescent scenes, previously shared videos of dolphins frolicking in the waves off Newport Beach in 2020 and a school of mullet playing in bioluminescent water last year. Meadows loses bid to move Georgia case to federal court

By Marshall Cohen, Jeremy Herb and Tierney Sneed | CNNA federal judge on Friday rejected former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows’ bid to move his Georgia criminal case to federal court, a significant setback for Meadows and a troubling sign for former President Donald Trump.US District Judge Steve Jones found that the allegations against Meadows contained in the Fulton County district attorney’s indictment on election subversion charges were largely “related to political activities” and not to Meadows’ role as White House chief of staff.“The evidence before the Court overwhelmingly suggests that Meadows was not acting in his scope of executive branch duties during most of the Overt Acts alleged,” wrote Jones, a Barack Obama appointee. The Friday ruling has significant implications for the former president and his 18 co-defendants in the Fulton County district attorney’s sprawling racketeering case, though the judge said the ruling did not apply to the other defendants. CA lawmakers vote to limit hand-counting election ballots

Published Sun, 16 Feb 2025 16:30:24 GMT

By Adam Beam and Christina A. Cassidy | Associated PressSACRAMENTO — California lawmakers on Friday voted to limit when local governments can count election ballots by hand, a move aimed at a rural Northern California county that canceled its contract with Dominion Voting Systems amid unfounded allegations of fraud pushed by former Republican President Donald Trump and his allies.Shasta County’s board of supervisors, which is controlled by a conservative majority, voted in January to get rid of the voting machines it used to tabulate hand-marked ballots for its roughly 111,000 registered voters. County supervisors said there was a loss of public confidence in the machines from Dominion Voting Systems, a company at the center of discredited conspiracy theories since the 2020 presidential election. At the time, leaders did not have a plan for how the county would conduct future elections, including the March 2024 Republican presidential primary in delegate-rich California that co...
